Remember... Nintendo files patents all the time! Be it updates to old patents, new ways to do old things and sometimes these patents never see the light of day. They are almost like they are simply made to protect possibilities and nothing more.
But recently there has been a lot of talk about a 3 screen Nintendo device that some are speculating could be the NEW Nintendo Switch, or possibly a new handheld? I have my doubts this will be the Switch 2.. but sure it is fun to speculate. But with all these talks about this supposed patent there have been no sources cited and no additional information shared.
I did a lot of digging and have all the filings and images available for you to take a look at and come to your own conclusions. Maybe this filing is just for the purpose of protecting the dual screen clamshell design of the DS and 3DS? Maybe to fight off future clone hardware? Maybe it is the Switch 2.. or perhaps some one off device that Nintendo will produce in limited quantities that plays 3DS and DS games? Maybe a DS Classic? Or perhaps it is absolutely nothing at all.
